A Pileated woodpecker is one of the largest woodpeckers. This one spent a long time carving a huge hole on my poplar tree. He didn’t seem bothered that we were taking videos and photos fairly close up. The hole was quite large and it is quite fascinating that a woodpecker can make such a huge hole with just its beak.
Pileated woodpeckers make nest holes in trees which are important shelters for a number of species including owls, ducks, pine martens and bats. The woodpecker has done its job and left. I am waiting to see if he will be back or if another bird will occupy this expertly crafted nest hole.

The nest it carved looks good. I don’t think I have seen a real woodpecker before. I always think they are hardworking. 😀
It is real interesting to see them at work. They keep at it until they finish the job
Woodpeckers also live here, but I don’t know if they are so big … I hear it many times but rarely
This is the first time I have seen such a large one. Smaller ones often come to the garden and try to put holes in the house and trees.
Super shot. I only heard the woodpecker, I haven’t seen it yet.
They seem to pop up around here a few times a year
Would love to see these in my backyard, so far no.
They are constantly making holes where I don’t want them to.
In our area 25 year ago , It was believe to be the predictor of any letter or message
Interesting. I wonder if this one had a message for me.
