World’s Largest Earth Filled Dam

Hi friends, here i am sharing a picture of Terbela dam which is located in KPK, Pakistan. The surface area of this dam is approximately 250 square kilometres (97 sq mi). The dam was completed in 1976 and was designed to store water from the Indus River for irrigation, flood control, and the generation of hydroelectric power.

Tarbela Dam is an earth-filled dam. It is the largest earth-filled dam in the world, and also the largest dam by structural volume.

  1. I live in a part of the US that for many years had flooding issues. There are many dams of all sorts of types. Earthen dams sometimes called Levies. Plus huge concreate structures we call dams.

All are, as you said for flood control! Lovely picture by the way!
