These tiny sunbirds are up early before the sun comes up and sing so sweetly. I usually wake up to their calls. This tiny guy is just about 5-6 cm in length.
The females are dowdy, greenish brown in color but these little guys shimmer in the sun their dark feathers either have a purple sheen to them or sometimes a greenish sheen. Some sunbirds look almost metallic because their black feather have a metallic multicolored sheen to them. They never stay in one place for a minute, they are chirping and jumping from one branch to another.
These birds make their neatly tailored nests on low hanging branches. The nest look almost like the weaver birds nest but no so beautifully woven.
This post was inspired by MohanBabu’s post on sunbirds.

How cute a bird. I see her for the first time. I get woken up by bird singing this morning ?
Isn’t that a wonderful feeling dear Vidocka? I love to wake up to their calls.
No song birds here but we have many others including humming birds.
I like your song bird – yellow colour is so pretty.
No song birds? How sad. I didn’t get the right angle for this picture as he was perched so high on the tree. His black feathers have such a lovely sheen and contrast to the yellow underparts.
Our humming birds and others are no less (lol)
I didn’t think so. each bird is unique and beautiful by itself LOL
I don’t like anything to wake me up most of the time! Beautiful bird.
Not even the sweet chirping of birds?
