The rationale of panic buying

In my exasperation of the panic buying that was prevalent in our town this weekend, I decided to interview some of the customers of a certain pharmacy and also the shoppers in one supermarket. They are one and the same in their reasoning that they might not be able to buy anymore when the lockdown is implemented. They needed medicine and food stuff not to mention other household necessities like alcohol and soap as agents against the corona virus.

What if you had bought enough for a week’s supply? The answer is still a yes which means another round of shopping when money comes in. Does that mean that the wealthy can buy  a stock for 1 month or even longer? Yes is the answer because some rich shoppers have several carts lined up in queue to the cashier. Maybe we cannot blame the panic buying since it is for their survival.
