The debutante means a girl that is turning 18 years old. In our culture that age means she is now an adult and the focus is on the potential suitors. That is the usual theme of the debut party for the debutante. There will be 18 boys to serenade her and to dance with her in that debut party.
Unfortunately for the debutantes now, there will be no debut party to speak of. Understandably with the possible spread of the corona virus the party is not a wise decision to hold. Maybe the debutante can postpone the party for next year.

In Judaism when a boy turns 13 he has a Bar Mitzva and they say he has become a man. I have heard of coming out parties or maybe that is debutant balls. It seems like a lot of things will not happen during this virus. it is sad.
