When I was a boy what I understood about fruit trees at home is that they were planted more for the display or being ornamental. But as I grew up and had been climbing trees, I clearly understood the purpose of the fruit trees.
Old folks say that planting fruit trees is like investing on the ground. You plant a seed and after a year you have a sapling that is nice to look at. When it grows more and starts to bear flowers then that’s the start of the awaited glory for the harvest.

In our garden in Latvia, we had four apple trees and one pear tree. We never sold anything but we had apple juice and made apple wine.
I live where there are very few fruit trees. The high desert doesn’t grow much fruit.
It is interesting when you are little and think one way and then grow up and find out that was not the way it is. We plant trees here in Israel.
