Today was a nice sunny weather again, so I took a walk to the neighboring village of Srednja vas where there are interesting churches. Two churches stand at one intermediate bell tower. They are consecrated to St. Radegundi and St. Katarini. The villagers revived the old custom – the blessing of the horses which takes place on December 26 at the churches. The path to the church leads between the fields and past the forests with a wonderful view of the mountains.

Thank you for viewing the post ?
In Chicago we have similar churches but there are still a lot of differences.
We don’t have the blessing of horses but, on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, we have the blessing of animals, usually peoples’ pets.
Thanks Gary …. you have a similar habit as we …. even horses are pets, at least some
Living in Chicago we don’t get that but if you go into some of the further out suburbs, you might see some horses.
Beautiful quaint looking but also elegant looking churches. The blessing of the horses is not a tradition here in Canada where I reside. Also I am allergic to horses although I find them very regal and grand animals.
Thanks HistoryGal … I need to check in which country they are familiar with this custom ?
Beautiful photos but I am not familiar.
Thanks Carol …. It’s the only such church I know
Vidocka I know the church and the tradition of horseback riding
I thought you knew this church ?
Of course I know the church too
