While out filling the bird bath I noticed bark had fallen off the tulip poplar tree. I know the weather can cause this to happen sometimes.
But there are two woodpeckers around as well that might be the culprit. It is hard to see in this photo but there is a hole that possibly the woodpeckers are using to hide their food. Not sure but I will keep an eye on the tree.
Sometimes you have to use tar on the trees when this happens. But for now I will watch and see if I can witness any woodpecker activity.

In the house where I work every day we have bird visits. They benefit from the fruit on the fruit trees.
Oh that is cool Elenka. The only fruit we have in the winter are the holly berries.
i have to go fill the birdfeeder today when I get taxes moving forward. I am hoping to see the birds and get a picture this time!
I hope you get get some photos Doc, would be cool to see.
well the feeder was empty, but no birds in sight. i will keep trying
Lately, our weather in Florida has been rather cool and I have not seen any birds sitting on the wires outside my window
I have birds no matter the weather at the deck feeder. Even if it is trying to snow a little. And in the rain.
I don’t have such big trees. There are fewer birds in my area too.
These poplars are fast growing trees, I have been happy with them.
All the birds have left me … I don’t know what’s going on
Do you have feeders out for them?
I have not because it has become too many cats … I am in the countryside and wander freely throughout the village
I understand, I have one cat that comes around I have to watch out for.
But now I have to decide whether to prosecute them or not …. but some are so nice that I can’t push her and give her some treat
I am curious to see whether woodpeckers will appear
I think they have hidden their food in the tree.
