Lichens are an indicator of the ecosystem, very sensitive and precise, which can provide valuable information on the degree of pollution of the atmosphere as well as of stationary ecological conditions. They are often ignored, and we only appreciate their beauty when we see either a microscope or when we see them in close-up photos. They are just as important as the forests that release us from smog.
