Nature on PBS

I love watching this show. Last evening there was a show about birds and eggs. I had no idea how little I knew about birds and eggs. I was taking notes and then I got so involved I stopped writing. So I had to do a little research to check what I believed I had learned. I did some research on the cuckoo bird and I was dumbfounded by how little I knew.

There are 54 species of cuckoos. The common cuckoo is the only one that has that famous call that the clock mimics “cuckoo-cuckoo-cuckoo”.

To me the most interesting thing is how horrible these birds are at parenting. I had no idea they would just lay eggs in other birds nests for them to sit on and feed. I was even more devastated that cuckoo bird usually hatches first and destroys the egg of the bird’s actual offspring. That is just mean. I will  never feel the same when I hear the cuckoo clock.
