I brought back a few plants from my Dad’s after he passed away. I am trying my best to keep them growing. This one was a surprise that started growing out of another pot. I replanted it in this pot and it seems to be taking off. Now I need to know what it is so I can plant it in the right spot in my yard. Looks to me like maybe a Mimosa? The leaves actually close up when disturbed and at night. I know that is what the Mimosa is known for. I am asking for suggestions as to what you think. And do you think it is strange to have the sprout from underneath another plant? I thought it was a weed. Maybe it is. But hopefully someone can help me out. I included a photo of a Mimosa for comparison. It would be so cool to have anything growing in my yard that was my Dad’s.
I am entering this to Kim’s August challenge titled Flora and Fauna.

Maybe, but without the flowers.

Certainly not grass. These leaves remind me of a flower, but I do not remember his name right now.Let us wait to grow up and see
Yes I agree. Thanks for visiting.
It’s nice that it’s your dad’s plant.
To my sorrow I do not know which plant is,
I believe someone else will know.
Thank you Robin, I know Kim will probably know.
I’ve never seen one before besides the photo you shared from pixabay…..but compared to that it kind of does look like it; the leaves anyway!
My neighbor has them but I don’t know how they look this small.
Looks like mimosa to me. It is what we call a “volunteer” — a plant that comes up on its own unexpectedly. I have a nice pink oleander that came to me that way…presumably by a bird flying overhead with the seed in its beak.
I sure hope so. It would be so cool to have one of my Dad’s trees. I have heard of that but could not figure this one out. He never had mimosa trees and all of his trees had been at his home for over 50 years.
Carol, too, can not help you much – I do not get to know the flowers anymore
No problem, but thanks for the visit.
It’s really very similar to mimosa … I have not seen mimosa yet
Thanks, I guess time will tell.
