Greater Coucal – this bird is a frequent visitor here

Some fear has been instilled about its chirp or some call it a cry that is supposed to be a bad omen.  But we are not affected.  The Greater Coucal has been in my life right from childhood and now they visit us here. Its size and shape is that of a crow except for the colour.

It is not a great flyer and is often seen walking around. Here it is seen basking in the sun knowing it is quite safe in our garden.

This bird is a loner per se except during the mating season. Those chirps are not pleasant to one’s ears. They are welcome all the same as having birds around no matter what their chirp makes my day.
