We had this neighbour the only one to own a gramaphone As a kid we would visit that house often just to listen to songs that came out of that contraption. We were not allowed to touch it and the owner would hover around just so that none of us meddled with it.
Despite all the supervision my little brother shifted that needle and hell broke loose. He later said he just wanted to experiment.
Much water has flowed under the bridge since then. It is now youtube that provides all the music. The gramaphone, the deck, the tapes, CDs even music downloaded from the Net is all outdated.
Youtube provides all what we want.

I had a turntable which unfortunately is gone but I have quite a few vinyl records which I will keep for memory
We have gone through all that process and just like you we do not have any of those things now.
Thanks. I will get to it soon.
I have never seen or played a gramophone but my dad’s boss at the Latvian newspaper he worked for in the US was the first person to have started putting out records with popular Latvian music in his timr in Riga, Latvia. This is the story of Bellacord Records it might interest you
