I was in the office writing when my husband called from the next room (yes on the phone!) and said what is a bomb cyclone. I had no clue but bomb sounded pretty serious so I went in to see what was going on. I was not expecting a weather term. It is something I have never heard of so of course I had to check it out.
The definition I found was this “”Bombogenesis is the technical term. Bomb cyclone is a shortened version of it, better for social media,” said weather.us meteorologist Ryan Maue, who helped popularise polar vortex in 2014. The storm, which some meteorologists classified as a “bomb cyclone” for its sharp drop in atmospheric pressure, forced flight cancellations and school closings up and down the East Coast.”
So as near as I can tell it is snow, ice, and really strong winds. It sounds dangerous and looks awfully stormy, but nothing is actually exploding. I guess that’s the good part.
