A moment in the sun. And now we shall sail off into the sunset. Dash, madly, off in all directions. Tomorrow is another day. If, ifs and buts were candy and nuts what a Merry Christmas we would have. Don’t do today what you can put off to tomorrow. Lock the gate it keeps honest people honest. I hear these old sayings all theim> Many of them were said by coaches, my grandfather and my father. Each of them is a tether for an idea. Away, to convey an idea without linking the idea directly to the person. Look before you leap is one that my grandfather often said. It was never said to me, as I stood on a cliff prepared to jump into the water below. It was said, standing on a curb or a small jump, but more to pay attention. What you see isn’t always what is there.
If we consider the path of least resistance (one my father used to say all the time) then the easiest thing when hearing these platitudes is to smile and nod.
They are, after all, simply the tether for the person’s true idea.
