The quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Men’s Basketball Tournament begins tonight. All games throughout this tournament will be played on the home courts of the higher-seeded teams. This conference is usually not very good, but the NEC was the worst conference in Division I basketball this season.
Normally, only the top eight teams in the NEC qualify for the conference tournament. However, that is not the case this season because Merrimack ended up being the NEC regular season champions. Even though the conference is bad, Merrimack had a real good season. Unfortunately, Merrimack just moved up from Division II this season, so they will not be eligible for the NCAA Tournament or the NIT Tournament until the 2023-24 season. Therefore, the 2nd place through 9th place teams qualified for this tournament.
Even though you will not watch the games, here is the quarterfinals schedule. All games will be played at 7 PM EST.
#8 St. Francis (NY) at #1 Robert Morris
#7 Bryant at #2 St. Francis (PA)
#6 Mount St. Mary’s at #3 Sacred Heart
#5 Fairleigh Dickinson at #4 Long Island University

not a chance, these are play in teams at best.
The winner of the conference was in the play in game last year. The only strong mid-major in the New England area this year was Vermont
it is a difficult time for east coast basketball UNC and Duke are not as good as usual
It’s a different time in college basketball now – guys go where they can play. If they don’t play, then they transfer. Now, the big-time college teams are unable to build depth like in the past. Both teams only have two consistent players. Also, it was a down year for the freshman class this year. It will definitely pick up for next season.
i miss the days of players that stayed 4 years. Yes the NBA pays, but it doesn’t play elegant basketball.
Yes, the NCAA messed things up by not allowing for players to make money off of their likeness and image. I think the rule is changing in a couple of years so that a guy that is on the fringe of jumping to the NBA stays due to not being absolutely broke.
No, you will be probably watching it!!!!!
I will not watch it until they let Merrimack into the tournament in 2024
