Wander project the shore of Lake Michigan!

We wandered the Beach for a couple of hours. Exploring, wandering and just relaxing. The reality of what parents often do. Entertain the kids while the other parent figures out what is going on with the rest of the activity. I think I got the easy job that time. Entertaining kids is never as hard as dealing with adults! The fun thing for me was showing the boys part of Chicago. Not a part that I was a child in, but a part of the city.

Chicago is a lifeforce. A way. A structure and a plan. I find a piece of Chicago in just about everything I do. It is the place that I began in. As a baby I was born on the north side of Chicago, I lived in a couple of suburbs before moving to Bloomington Indiana around age 5. Who I am is shaped by the early years in Chicago, and of course all the years in Indiana (from 5-11 and from 12 to 30) the funny thing for me is that upon moving from Cincinnati Ohio back to Indiana, I worked in Chicago.

Chicago to me is more than that toddling town of Sandburg. It is the Cubs. Ernie Banks and the other Sandburg (Ryne). It is the world championship banner that hangs over 2016 like a massive erasure of failure. You only fail until you don’t. But once you have been successful than failure is erased, moved to a drawer filled with junk in your kitchen. In my lifetime every single Chicago team I root for has won a championship. The Bears, the Bulls, The Blackhawks and my beloved Cubs.
