The trip to Cappadocia, Turkey

This is a geological miracle of stunning beauty in Central Anatolia, Turkey. This is a region called the dream country. It combines wonderful nature and rich history. Cappadocia has hills, caves of incredible forms, complex tunnel systems that form entire underground cities.

The unusual, mysterious area is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Turkey. A unique region formed about 60 million years after the eruption of Erciyes and Hassan volcanoes. A thick ash clay has hardened for thousands of years and turned into a tufa – a soft, rocky stone. Rainy winds and erosion caused the formation of hills, called fairy chimneys.

There are several underground city and tunnel systems in Cappadocia, which in ancient times were used as a hiding place for thousands of persecuted Christians. They include wells, chimneys, stables and even tombstones. It is worth visiting the Pigeon, Love, Pasabah, Ihlara Canyon valleys, Goreme, Kaymakli and Derinkuyu towns.
