Megz Country Cheese, Davis, IL – Black & White Version (2018-06-20 14-39-48a)
While my wife and I were driving through northern Illinois on our vacation we came across this interesting little store in the town of Davis, Illinois. Located at South Street (Rte 75) and Stanton Street in Davis, Illinois, it looks like it used to be a gas station at one point. One of the pumps remains but it has been altered to reflect the name of the store which now sells ice cream, cheese and sausages. It was surprisingly busy. We were there for 15 or 20 minutes and several customers came and went during that time.
Davis is located in northeastern Stephenson County. It was founded in 1850 when the railroad was extended into the area. The town got its first post office in 1858. According to the 2010 census it is home to 677 people but an estimate done in 2016 indicates that the population has dropped to 639.
The photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera and edited using Luminar 2018. I started by erasing a bit of a car that poked its way into the photo and cleaned it up a bit using the Clone & Stamp tool. Then I added the Accent-AI filter and used the Tone filter to lower the SmartTone. Lastly I did the black and white conversion and cropped the image to balance it.

I like it. It looks like some structures in my city. For the reasons that we were been colonized by the Americans before.
My kind of place, I bet it was yummy! Love the old station, great shot.
Thanks, Kim. It was a great find.
Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
you had me at cheese, and then came the sausage…
How cool to see that the building is still being used. Great photo Gary.
Thanks, Carol. I’ve come across a couple of old gas stations that have been repurposed, usually in small towns.
