How To Protect Yourself on Facebook (and other social media) – 10

I’ve used terms which might be unfamilair to the average user, so will pause and do a short tutorial.

An ‘I.P. Address’ is the server you are using to connect to the Internet. One can tell, by capturing an I.P. Where in the world you are.  If you go to this site it tells you all the I.P.s in Jamaica.

If you go to this site it will seem that you are in Jamaica.

That is because you will use your provider to go to that site, and that site will connect you to the Internet via a Jamaican ‘proxy’.

There are proxy servers all over the world, so you can appear to be in any country you want.

This is what scammers do.

Many people are not aware of it, or good at it, so may say they are in Jamaica but are really in an Internet Cafe in Lagos.
