Atalanta grabs a 3-2 comeback win over Lazio

Two of the top four teams in the Serie A were involved in an epic match yesterday evening at the Venue Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy with 4th place Atalanta hosting 2nd place Lazio.  Lazio was looking to keep pace with 1st place Juventus with a win.

Lazio began this game quickly by capitalizing on early bad passing from Atalanta.  Their fierce counterattack led to an own goal from a cross put Lazio up in the 5th minute.  Then, Lazio scored six minutes later on another counterattack.  Atalanta was able to get back on defense, but was unable to clear the ball from the scoring area.  The ball went to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who put in a curler from about 25 yards out to put Lazio up 2-0.

Nevertheless, Atalanta was able to weather the early storm when Robin Gosens scored on a header in the 38th minute to make the score 2-1 Lazio at halftime.

Atalanta kept the pressure on in the second half and tied the score in the 66th minute with a howler from Ruslan Malinovskiy from about the same spot where Milinkovic-Savic scored in the first half.  Then, Atalanta closed the deal when Jose Luis Palomino knocked in a header off of a corner kick in the 80th minute to give Atalanta the 3-2 victory.
