Tree demons!

We had a storm recently in my hometown in southern England. It’s nice to go out for a walk during and after storms to see the storm damage. We don’t get big storms in the Midlands much and when we do its shot lived, gusts of 75-80mph plus very rare. If the storm hits in the autumn when the ground is very wet and the trees still have some green on them the leaves catch the wind like a sail and the anchoring roots do battle with the elements to keep the mighty trees standing. If the roots hold, the forces increase on the branches and down they come, sometimes big ones.

This photo was taken by me on my cheap cellphone in our local park. I took it to document the damage to post on social media but when I actually looked at the photo on Facebook I realized it was more than just a photo. I had captured a rare and frightening battle between the tree demons of the ancient world that are awakened by the strongest storms. It had taken a big bite out of the other one and its flailing branches had felled the other. Legend has it that when humans are around the trees freeze and the battle can only continue when no humans eyes are upon them to witness such fairy tales. BEWARE OF THE TREE DEMONS!
