Common kingfisher.
Among my friends, also known as “the Blue Bullet” 🙂
The upper side of the head of the male is dark green with transverse blue stripes /as pictured/.
It flies low over the water, waving its wings fast and making a squeaky sound.
Often, it is fixed perched on a branch, leaning low over the water or on the stones.
It feeds on small fish that catch on the water surface, aquatic insects and their larvae, molluscs and small amphibians.
Great capture indeed, thanks
I’m trying to show some of the nature of the Balkans 🙂
Nice capture our New Zealand Kingfisher has a larger head.
I looked through the directories and it turned out that there were 7 subspecies. This is common in the Balkans.
