Spring and summer are the times when people are most apt to begin thinking of camping, barbecuing, or otherwise building fires. There are proper ways to do it and there are many articles and tips regarding how it can be done. However, there are also very wrong ways to build a fire.
A person might wonder what difference it makes. It is important because people end up in the hospital every year from trying to get a fire going the wrong way. Houses have burned to the ground from starting barbecues the wrong way and major wildfires have broken out from improperly building campfires. It is very worthwhile to learn the right way to start a fire or barbecue, but it is every bit as important to learn the wrong way to do it, lest you be tempted to take what might appear to be a fast and easy way.
The wrong way that I’m referring to is the use of explosive flammables to get a fire going. As a case in point, a neighbor routinely starts his charcoal barbecue using gasoline. Last year, a little too much gas was used and it resulted in a 10-foot ball of flame that nearly caught his house on fire and destroyed his barbecue grill. It could have been even worse than that and it is thankful that nobody ended up in the hospital.
The temptation might be great. After all, pouring gas on something and then lighting it produces an instant flame. People sometimes think of this as a shortcut. The practice is quite unwise. It makes sense that learning the correct way to build a fire is preferable. It isn’t difficult to do, either.
I’m a survivalist, but people don’t need to be survivalists in order to properly build a fire or to get a charcoal barbecue going. Doing it the right way is not only safer, it is far more impressive to others than doing it in a way that most people probably recognize is foolish.
Do yourself a favor; don’t start a barbecue, campfire, or other fire by using gasoline, kerosene, or other explosively combustible substances.
Good post! I love the photo as well!
I’m rather hoping that the picture helps to get the point across. lol
These are a good reminder for people who wanted to create their own fire. It is not good to make a fire by pouring a gas and the like. It is too flammable and we cannot be sure how safe it is being used. c”,)
I just hope that more people think about it carefully before using gas to start fires. Too many people get hurt every year from doing it.
This is another very important message all need to read. It can be very dangerous.
Yes, it can. The sad part is that the neighbor still starts his charcoal barbecue with gas.
It means that we can teach new tricks the old dog. c”,)
I do really need to teach him the right way if he will allow it. I want to make sure that he doesn’t take offense, though, and heeds the advice.
If he is not open it, then we can just let it go. I hope he will listen. c”,)
