Love ItLove It

Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site MT, ND

If you have not heard of trading posts, I have some interesting way to describe them. My grandchildren weren’t really understanding the whole idea. (They live in a digital world now). So I took them to a flea market where many people were selling goods.  I thought it was a good introduction. Then when we went home for the next few weeks we bartered for things. Yes, I will cook your favorite dinner if you will feed the dogs and take them for a walk. The next day we went to a mall and looked at all the shops. It was different than a flea market, but had some similarities.

Why was I doing all this? In preparation for the visit to the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site MT, ND. John Jacob Astor established the trading place where the American Fur Company was created as a place for the Northern Plains Tribes to meet and trade their furs. It was not a military, or government site, it was a private business. It was very successful.

We are heading out to the Fort in a few weeks. It’s located near where the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers join. We are all very interested in the sites and the things we can learn about the Assiniboine nation at this National Historic Site.
