A Very Different Song Saturday

He came stomping in. “I was drafted to a war that I didn’t even understand. I served and I made it back. I learned what it was to stand together and fight for things we believed in and it took more years than the time I served there to heal, and now this. They want to take away the National Anthem. Maybe they should let the veterans decide about things like the National Anthem and the statues. We fought for a reason.

#2 John Lennon – Imagine – Lyrics

Then he brought me in and made me read the lyrics and listen to the song. I did.

Then I asked, so what does this song say to you.

"It means that they want to destroy everything they told me we were fighting for, our rights to worship, a country to protect our way of life, and a future for our children. Yes, it would wonderful if everyone could agree. But no one can agree and if we don't stand up and fight we will have no rights."

"What do you want to fight for now?"

"Our right to keep law and order and live in ways that are respectful. It's not rocket science."

I think this is going to be a very long day.

      • i work in the government service world. I have heard many say what your husband is saying. The words of the national anthem are something that shouldn’t be up for consideration. We though do need to accept that we were not the best we could have been.

Just like here, I would say as a nation we are better together!
