Steve Perks has this kind of attitude that we should all follow his example of risking his life to save a life of a neighbor who was trapped inside her home on Thursday afternoon.
A 12 year old girl was by herself when the fire started around 45 minutes after lunch time when the fire broke out inside her parents home.
The reason that the 12 year old girl was not able to get out of the burning home is that the front door was locked from the inside as well as the outside. She did not have a key to open the door.
When Steve heard the cries of his neighbor for help, he called 911 to send the St. Louis Fire Department to come to the 1400 block of Graham Street to put out the fire.
Normally the firefighters have suggested that going inside a home to rescue another person should not be attempted before they arrive at the scene.
However Steve decided to assist the 12 year old girl to get out of her home by assisting her to get out through the window to safety before the firefighters arrived on the scene to put out the fire.
St. Louis Firefighter Captain Garon Mosby mentioned that investigators will find the cause of the fire.
Both Steve and the 12 year old managed to get out of the fire with minor injuries which did not require any visits to the local hospital.
The 12 year old girl reunited with her relatives later in the afternoon. I am sure she did thank Steve for being her knight in shining armor to use a phrase from the days of King Arthur.
That is a good idea to prevent causalities due to windows being barred from the outside.
That is what the Housing Authority tells all of their tenants of not having their windows with bars on them since it does prevent an escape during a fire.
Your rescue stories always start or end my day with a positive attitude about people.
My pleasure to share them on this site.
I am sure the parents will have some questions to answer as to why she was locked inside. Anyway it is a heartwarming story that shows the kindness of strangers.
That what I am thinking that why did the parents leave their child locked up at home.
it is illegal to lock children inside a room or even a house for precisely that reason
I did not that law existed. Thanks for sharing it here.
I think putting bars over the windows is even illegal now
That is true since in the houses in Louisiana it is forbidden to have bars on the windows since it prevents window rescues.
exactly, it isn’t seen as security anymore
What a great save and not a good idea to be locked in and out.
That is very true. My belief is that the parents of the child did not want strangers coming in to the home with their child alone.
It says that the coms are more important than the brother. It’s worth the help.
That is true since Steve mentioned that he is sure if he was in the shoes of the 12 year old girl, she would return the favor.
In my life, the neighbors play a very important role. When something good or bad happens, I first knock on their door.I love my cousins, but they are far away. The neighbor is the first to come to the aid.
The same here when I get a piece of mail that does not belong to me, I go to the neighbor and hand them their mail and vice versa.
