In today’s video, I’m going to be looking at popcorn (on the cob). While you may never have given it much thought, popcorn grows on stalks just like sweet corn does. Watch here as I shuck this ear of popcorn. While it looks very similar to sweet corn, the kernels are much smaller and harder.
Let’s compare my home grown popcorn to an ear of store bought sweet corn. With the sweet corn, I can push my thumbnail right into the kernels. I definitely can’t do that with the popcorn.
What’s next? I can take the kernels off the cob, similar to what you’re used to from the store, or I can pop it right on the cob. All you need is a standard lunch bag. Put in your popcorn on the cob, close up the bag, and cook in the microwave on high for 2 minutes. It doesn’t really get popping until the second minute.
After letting it cool, carefully pour out the contents into a bowl. The cob and especially the un-popped kernels can be very hot, so be careful. Some of the popcorn sticks to the cob. Once it cools down, you can pull them off into the bowl. There, you have popcorn on the cob, or in a bowl anyways.
