Lockdown Activities for the Whole Family: Painting Rocks!

I’m sure you are familiar with the rock garden popularity that hit a couple of years ago. If not, it is a simple idea. You paint rocks with inspirational messages and put them in a garden. Many of these gardens are in public places. When someone sees a rock that motivates them or speaks to them, they take the rock. They are supposed to bring another painted rock back to keep the garden “rockin.”

This is an activity that the entire family can enjoy doing together. Collect some rocks, get some paint in different colors, paintbrushes and get to work. You may be surprised to see that you may have a little artist in your family that you didn’t even know about.

Next you can take a ride or hike to a nearby park or other public place and find a rock garden to plant your rocks in. Or you could just make one in your own yard. The kids will enjoy keeping an eye on their designs and to see how fast they disappear. The taken rocks can be replaced with new painted rocks as needed.

It can also be fun to go on your own rock hunt. This will give your kids new ideas of what they can paint next on their rocks.
