Shabac-Serbian Paris

The convention of the Federation of European Carnival Cities is underway in Shabac (western Serbia). Carnival troops took part in the city square, and 25 tree of friendship in the Great Park were planted – there are so many countries from which our guests came.

Shabac shows the creativity of our children, and the warm welcome of our fellow citizens. Keeps the past, but also creating the future. Has always been the first city of Serbia, a window through which European values and knowledge have entered our country.

The convention will be held from May 26 to June 3, 2018..

The city was urbanized in 1826, and Sabac is the first city in Serbia to have a pharmacy, theater, glass windows, a carriage. In the First World War of 14,000 inhabitants, 7,000 died. For these sufferings in the First World War, Shabac received three Order: French wreath with a palm branch of France, the Order of the Czechoslovak national cross from Czechoslovakia and Karadjordje Star by the Serbian government. Near Shabac, on Cer mountain, there is a monument to Serb soldiers who defeated the Austro-Hungarian army in the famous Battle of Cers, the first battle of the First World War.

Among the first cities in Europe, Sabac opened the doors of his gymnasium to women. Mileva Maric, also known as Mileva Einstein, attended the school.

The citizens are most proud of the library. The area where this city library is located was founded in 1847, but it was actually a tavern.Тhe most beautiful songs and the most beautiful literary works were created right in the tavern.

When Prince Milan Obrenovic (1854-1901) visited Serbia, he arrived in Shabac around noon and planned to move to Valjevo in the evening.People pulled out a bolt. And when the carriage went off, the wheel went off, the carriage broke, and the Prince had to stay in sleeping in Shabac until they recovered. So they managed to keep the Prince in Sabac and show their hospitality in the best possible way.

Shabac has changed over time, but the cheerful spirit of people and hospitality remain forever.
