REbooting

Although it is a term we use with computers, meaning, we go back to start; it also can be applied to people. To people who might need psychiatric intervention.

Have you ever got into a discussion/argument with someone, proven they are wrong, and when you’ve finished, they repeat the same point you’ve already destroyed?

That’s rebooting.

Have you ever seen someone about to do something stupid, explained why they should not, and then they do it, with the exact consequences you warned about?

That’s rebooting.

Most often it is used with lies; whether false memories the person clings to as a security blanket, or a scam they are trying to run so repeat their deceptive sentence, perhaps twisting what you’ve proven to be dishonest.

This is a true occurrence; I’m only changing a name.

Helen has been walking around telling people that a certain series of events occurred.  She’s given all sorts of details. Someone told me, and I said, “No, that’s not what happened,”  and was able to actually show the factual proof; for example, Helen described the steps she walked; there are no steps.

Showing her this picture would have her go into pause mode, end the conversation.  Walk away.   Then, repeat the steps she walked up.

How is it possible to prove, beyond a doubt that her so called ‘memory’ is wrong?

One can’t.

People who lie to themselves, lie to others, and when confronted, go into pause mode, then reboot.
