Louisiana Folklife Festival

The U.S. state of Louisiana has a heritage that was formed by many different cultures, nationalities, and ethnic groups. Among these groups are the Cajuns and the Creoles. The Cajuns are the descendants of French-speaking Acadians from Canada.

Acadia was an early term for the Canadian province of Nova  Scotia. After the French lost the colony in 1755 the Acadians were expelled. Creole people are a mix of French or Spanish and African descent.

Every September in Monroe, Louisiana there is a folk festival. With lots of music, storytelling, and crafts. You can watch dancing and get a taste of the local food.Since Louisiana is by the Gulf of Mexico, there is plenty of seafood available. So seafood dishes are among the main dishes you can sample at the Louisiana Folklife Festival. The history of the state has played a bit role in the kinds of foods that are made here. The territory has been part of France, Spain, and Great Britain.
