Tales of a Business Trouble Shooter – Part 7

In the two sections of Part 6 I dealt with demotivation, giving two separate reasons how the staff of a business is so disgusted with the running of the business that they cease to produce.

If it was a simple case of being able to fire this ‘boss’ or ‘board’  then the problem would be solved, but the Boss can not be fired and The Board which rules will take no correction from anyone.

In most cases, to make this suggested turns one into the target of attack, and may not even leave with their full fees.

The usual response by a Consultant divergence, in telling the Boss from Hell or the worthless Board which manages the business, what they want to hear.

If the Boss or Board which retained you would listen to your advice, then they would not be where they are because common sense dictates much of what you are advising.

For example, take this Board of Directors. They all have other jobs and sitting on this Board is a once a week meeting. They couldn’t care less. As far as they are concerned they would close a section of the business which is not producing other than implement changes to have it produce.

To allow a person placed in a management position to manage is an anathema to the Board for the thought is not to delegate power, as in their twisted reality translates that into losing power. As many Boards are often rather inferior persons, they cling to every atom of power they can.

Hence, they hire managers they do not allow to manage or a Boss From Hell.

When the problem with the business lies on those who pay your fees, the best thing is to tell them what they want to hear, and go.
