Narcissists; Their Cruelty is Implicit – Part 16

The basic Narcissist is a man like George.

A man who thinks he is handsome, brilliant, irresistible, and can have any woman he wants.

He ran into Jo-Ann’s life and swept her off her feet. She never felt so loved, so important. No man had ever ‘worshiped’ her as George did.

This is the first trick of a Narcissist; to make another feel on a pedestal.

Shortly after marriage he liked to say things to bring her to tears.

This is the second trick, to exercise ‘power, to control another’s feelings.’.

Jo-Ann, however, began to see George’s flaws. This is highly unusual as most victims don’t.

Perhaps, if she had  known better she would not have made it obvious.  Unfortunately she erred and let him know what she saw, and he hated her for that. He tried to find ways to hurt her, and she, aware of his ‘program’  had an affair.

Although it is, of course, the greatest insult a wife can pay to a husband, for a Narcissist as George it went beyond all bounds.

Violence alone could not reinflate his ego, he had to get her back so that he could regain the upper hand, then dump her.

For months George tried to woo Jo, but it didn’t work and she moved away, leaving no forwarding address, to escape him..

Years later they encountered. George did everything to provoke a reaction from Jo so that he could retaliate.

Incapable of gaining more than polite indifference, George failed and withdrew.

Withdrawing is a rare act for a Narcissist, it is admitting failure; but considering that Jo-Ann lived far away, he could pretend he was the one who had dumped her.
