How to get a blue hair color without yellowing?

House blond hair often ends up with unwanted yellow instead of blue or platinum. If this is exactly what happened to you, you do not have to worry because there are different ways you can get blue hair without yellowing .

The yellowing usually remains after the bleaching of naturally darker hair. For already blonde hair, it is recommended to blanch for 1 – 2 shades of lighter to avoid yellow.

Why Does Hair Turn Yellow After Blonding?

Blushing works by removing the color from the hair to make it lighter. However, with dark (black or brown) hair color, it is very difficult to remove the warm pigment found in the hair.

Bleaching alone can brighten the hair, but it does not easily remove the warm pigment, especially when it is taken care that the hair is not too damaged after the whole process. Therefore, it is not recommended to have extra blonding if your hair is yellow. More about restoring hair after bleaching find here .

There are post-blond products that help pull yellow tones out of your hair to give you blond or platinum hair. They are applied after blending by different methods, depending on the product. Find out more about such products below.

Remedies for yellow tones from hair

Agents used to remove yellow tones from hair are chemicals that act in different ways to counteract warm tones. In principle, your hairdresser should use these products after a blare. However, if your yellow hair is the result of home dyeing, you can buy these products to correct it.

For both toner and specialized shampoo, what color you buy is important.

Toner

Toner is used after bleaching to extract yellow tones with the help of cool tones and to give the hair a blue or platinum color. In addition to removing unwanted tones , toner also serves to add shine to the hair. It can be permanent or semi-permanent, in which case it lasts 3-8 weeks depending on how often you wash your hair.

With the toner you need a tuba and “developer” ( developer) , volume 30 or 20 (or less). Excessive volume developers damage the hair and can cause hair to fall out. Read the manufacturer’s instructions on the packaging before use.

The toner and developer in the container should be mixed according to the instructions on the packaging. The proportion of developers versus toner is usually 2: 1.

The mixture is then applied evenly to the hair with the help of a dye brush using the same method of applying hair dye. The mixture should be left on the hair for about 30 minutes (or as instructed on the package), then rinsed with cold water and washed with the usual shampoo and conditioner.

It is recommended to use shampoos and conditioners that are suitable for colored hair to last the effect of toner.

Purple shampoo

Purple shampoo is not as powerful as toner because it is intended for everyday use , which makes it an easier option. You can find this shampoo at a nearby drugstore.

It is used several times a week and then changes your usual shampoo . Before washing, soak your hair with warm water to open the cuticles, apply purple shampoo, gently massage it into your hair and leave it for 5 – 10 minutes for best results, then rinse with cold water. Read and follow the instructions on the packaging of your shampoo before use.

It is recommended to use this shampoo every two to three washes for best effect. Excessive use of purple shampoo can leave a purple tone on your hair and further dry your hair.

Vinegar

One of the more natural methods that is sometimes recommended is to use apple cider vinegarFor this preparation it is necessary to mix:

  • 2 teaspoons of apple (or white) vinegar ,
  • 470 ml of water .

Apply the mixture all over the hair, from the roots to the tips and leave it on for 15 minutes. It is not recommended to leave vinegar on the hair for more than 15 minutes because the acid in the vinegar can damage the hair.

After 15 minutes, rinse your hair and apply your conditioner as usual. If this is not enough to remove the vinegar scent from your hair, use a shampoo and conditioner after rinsing.

Some also add a few drops of purple food coloring to this mix to help remove the yellowing. But if you are not sure of the outcome, you better stick to more proven methods.

Additional features

If you do not want to further destroy your hair with these products, you can look for a purple mask in the drugstores.

If you have darker hair and would like to go lighter, the best option is to schedule an appointment at a hair salon . It is by no means advisable to further blemish your hair at home, as it can further damage it.
