Bride of the Black Blade

This piece sorta reminds me of Elric of Melnibone meets Vampire Hunter D, and it certainly has the loose, painterly vibe of Amano Yoshitaka’s work. Indeed, development on this piece is halted while I research a mixed media look and feel. It may not be used in the final version of this piece, but I swear by the blood of my noble ancestor that I will use it somewhere!

(My ancestor? What does that mean? Could I be the son of?!?)

#1 painterly style type 1

I'm really playing it fast and loose here, even to the point of allowing chromatic aberrations, lost edges and bleedovers. The background is completely unresolved, and I can't decide whether to work up parts of it or to leave it as is...

#2 painterly style type 2

This piece is slightly more restrained and thus more unified, but slightly less fun

#3 rough sketch

Just your standard value study, with an extra helping of sass. Not too wild about the stippling though. Uncertain if this is a problem in execution or simply a design flaw...

Still, there are elements here that I really enjoy and will most likely try to encorporate them into some of my other styles
