Built in 1859 in the Carpenter Gothic style, Saint James Episcopal Church is located on Snell Street just off Washington Street in the heart of down town Sonora. The broad batten and exterior walls were made with redwood and are painted red. It was concencrated in 1870 by Reverened William Ingraham Kip the first bishop of the Episcopal Diosece of California. It’s reportedly the seventh oldest Episcopal building, and the oldest in California.
