Here is one of my favourite New Zealand Birds, but then they are all lovely.
This is also known as the Kereru.
Its the biggest pigeon in the world and essential to the preservation of New Zealand’s pristine bush. Some trees don’t grow unless the seed has passed through the gut of the New Zealand Wood pigeon.
One of these trees is one of it’s favourite foods, the Puriri tree. Its sitting in a Puriri tree now.
There is something calming about the presence of this lovely big bird.
Oh my gosh how beautiful! Reminds me of our doves but bigger!
Thanks Carol, these birds are also protected which is great.
Yes indeed that is great Pam.
beautiful photo, New Zealand has wonderful birds
thanks so much Branka for your kind comments.
Your pigeons are so much prettier than our grey ones. I would love to see this wild.
Thanks Kim, we also have the grey pigeons as well.
Such an amazing and detailed capture!
Thanks so much Ellie, glad you like the Woodpigeon.
