These photos were taken by me several years ago when I made a visit to Bangor, North Wales, where I was a university student in the early 1970s. The occasion was a reunion of the English Department, and I also took the opportunity to revisit some old haunts.
One place that was new to me was Bangor Pier, because it had been closed to the public when I was a student and its restoration took place after I had left. The hotel where I stayed the night overlooked the pier, so straight after breakfast, while the mist was clearing and the sun was making its appearance, I took a walk and make good use of the camera!
The pier dates from Victorian times, when it was used as a landing stage for pleasure boats that made their way along the North Wales coast. It also provided opportunities for local people to take a leisurely stroll and admire the views across to Anglesey and along the Menai Strait.
