In a tropical country like ours, the heavy rain during the cold months can destroy the fruits particularly of mangoes, sugar apple, strawberry and even dragon fruit. The cold wet rain would penetrate the inside of the fruits that it would get swollen and eventually crack or break. A raw mango like that in the picture would surely go to waste especially when it didn’t fall on the ground because it would be exposed to the birds and insects.
Some orchard farmers have a way of protecting their tropical fruits. They wrap it individually with old newspaper. And although the newspaper would fall off when it gets very wet but the fruits are somehow intact and not cracks or breaks in the skin. But take note that it is not easy to wrap each fruit with paper. It is a big task when you have many trees to work on.

I have some fruit trees in my garden and yes, sometimes heavy rain damages the fruit.
We don’t have a fruit tree at home.
