Anthuriums are also called flamingo Lily, Painted Tongue, Flamingo Flower etc. Anthuriums are grown for their ornamental leaves and brightly colored flowers which are actually spathes.
The waxy flower or spathe is a modified leaf. The glossy look and the textures of the flowers make it very attractive. They come in different colors. Red is the most common while white, pink, yellow and purple are not so rare anymore.
The leaves of the plant are large and showy making the plant look quite attractive even when they are not in bloom. The dark green leaves look glossy and splendid if kept clean.
Anthuriums are popular a cut flowers as well. As these plants are epiphytes ( naturally grow on trees) and they do not like being grown in soil. The best way to grow them is to pot them in an orchid mix They do bloom bountifully if they are fed fortnightly with orchid fertilizers.

With us, this flower does not thrive in nature, but we can buy it in a flower shop … a beautiful flower, dear Dawn
Glad you can still enjoy these lovely flowers Lado.
It really is a beautiful flower, dear friend
It is an interesting flower. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you Ghostwriter for stopping by to admire the anthurium. 🙂
these are quite amazing. We are able to kill any plant that comes to our house. Outside we don’t really grow a lot, our neighborhood is picky about flowers.
You seem to have a green thumb!
Its just a matter of learning, I have had a brown thumb (killed enough plants) before I got my green thumb. LOL
I suspect in my case the brown thumb is well deserved! My dad could grow anything.
Hmm.. I am surprised that you didn’t inherit this too from your dad like you have done with other skills.
I think it was all the years I was forced to garden. I don’t really like that anymore.
it is hard to be good at things you don’t like!
I wrote a post on this some time ago where I posted two pink healthy looking anthuriums. Yours is beautiful. I had other colours but now I have just one.
I have responded to that post I remember, I love they way these plants respond to the right growing conditions with the biggest , brightest shiniest flowers.
I had the re potting done this year and hence the result.
It always pays to do the extra work.
