The uncurable diabetes disease

Diabetes is a disease that is characterized by high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period of time. The symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination, increased thirst and increased hunger. Diabetes can be divided into types based on the body’s production and response to insulin, a hormone that regulates the uptake of glucose from the blood into the cells of the body. Type 1 diabetes results from the body’s inability to produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes occurs when body cells fail to respond properly to insulin. The other type of diabetes is gestational diabetes. This is when a pregnant woman without a history of diabetes develops high blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes is the most common in the world.

Persons with diabetes face many complications. If left untreated, diabetes increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It can induce stroke and peripheral artery disease. Diabetes can damage the eyes due to damage to small blood vessels resulting in blindness. It can also result in damage to the kidneys and nerves.

Diabetes is a disease that cannot be cured. It can only be managed. Management of diabetes includes following a balanced meal plan, exercising regularly, taking medicines and following guidelines prescribed for medicine, and monitoring blood glucose and blood pressure levels at home.
