My Mom loved every season. They all had special and and unique traditions. Most of the time we realized that other families did very different things. Different doesn’t always mean better.
For us summer meant no school and a lot of work with animals and crops. There is no telling what the weather might be, but sometimes it was warmer and sometimes it snowed in July. For us the first day of summer was the last day of school no matter what the calendar or stars said. The last day of school Mom would pull out the activity jar and fill it. We all were allowed to add some in. They had to realistic and within the budget. Within reason, we all agreed that we would do whatever was drawn from the jar. All of the activities were not fun. Many were very useful.
So here’s a list I kept of things what we did from the jar when I was six! Would it be a yes or no in your summer jar.

I was all in on the Jar until you pulled out Weeding. I hate weeding!
What a wonderful tradition and concept. Over the years as my kids have gotten older I’ve tried to maintain an activity each of us can do together.
My wife and daughter have wedding planning right now, but when that is over they will go back to their favorite arts and crafts.
This is a wonderful idea!
