Our dogs are confined to the living room but sometimes they go to the porch. But what they really love is to be loose in the yard so they can do whatever they want. And when they had spent 30 minutes outside they will voluntarily want to go back inside the house.
Dogs are like children. They have their own idiosyncrasies and they want freedom. However, the freedom is short lived for they probably know what is good for them. Being outside the house can put them at risk of diseases. At least they are safe inside.
