The hatred for plastic bags

There is an ongoing campaign to discredit the plastic bag that supermarkets here advocate in not using the plastic grocery bags. Without that, supermarkets resorted to the traditional brown paper bag and the empty carton boxes. After eradicating the plastic grocery bag in the picture and turning to the brown paper bag, now they are again going ballistic in saving the trees by not using the paper bag anymore.

These environmentalists are sometimes out of their sanity. Banning the plastic bag is silly because plastic made life convenient. The use of cloth bags for the grocery is fine but how do you bring home the fish and the meat? Would you not wrap it in plastic first before putting in your cloth bag? Pardon me for saying that plastic is good for the environment and not what environmentalists are saying about it.
