Strange Laws and History

I am really loving Rex’s series on strange laws and it’s leading me to learn some interesting things and also finding that sometimes I am not very law abiding.

I was interested in the whole whale hunting law in Utah. Apparently the discussion came  about because there were reports early on that there were once whales in the Great Salt Lake. Of course they got a grant to go look for the whale. Then it was pointed out that the federal government’s Marine Mammal Protection Act does make it unlawful for any person or vessel to capture a species of whale in the course of commercial whaling.

So Utah stated that they would support that law.

We learned about it because we asked questions when we went to Museum of Natural History here.

  • Isn’t wonderful when a “I wonder” turns into “a wander”?

    • Yes
    • No
