Mysterious display in a mall

I chanced upon this sphere that is displayed in the entrance of a popular mall. It was made of metal that looked like a space ship or maybe a big container. No one in the building could give me a good explanation about the display.

On retrospect, I think the artist has been good with his strategy of not posting any title or description of his artwork. The public is intrigued with the flavor of mystery so the sphere is more appreciated that so many are taking a selfie with it. Perhaps it’s not only the art that should be appreciated but also the gimmick that goes with it.
