Macro Monday – Grasshopper

Hello, dear Virilians! It’s Monday again!Today I want to introduce you one of the most greedy insects, Grasshopper. It can devour  a daily amount of food equal to its weight.Grasshoppers have a formidable appetite, and if they are helped by heat, they turn into Biblical pests, being a real catastrophe for agriculture. These insects can destroy whole hectares of grain crops in a very short time, as each swarm can contain several thousand grasshoppers.Grasshoppers are usually active during the day, but can also be fed at night. They do not have specific nests or territories, and some migratory species go long distances to find new sources of food.If you’ve ever tried to grab a grasshopper, then you surely know how far they can jump in her attempt to escape danger. The grasshopper can leap more than 20 times the length of her body.

That’s all for today!

  1. When I was a kid I used to catch grasshoppers and put them in jars. Then I’d put leaves in and watch them eat. It was amazing how much and how fast they could devour a leaf.

  2. The one grasshopper I had the pleasure of enjoying his comedy work was the late comedian Roberto Gomez Bolanos aka Chespirito who played the hero the Crimson Grasshopper who is nicknamed the Mexican Spider-Man due to his funny comments in battle.
