Legislation and Montana

As a general rule the citizens of Montana are not big on legislating stupidity. What does this mean? There wasn’t a speed limit on Montana Highways until the Federal Government said they would withhold funding. It was generally thought if you drive faster than you could control your vehicle you would be issued a ticket. Or in Montana speak “If are dumb enough to drive fast in snow and ice, you wreck and get a ticket.

There is no law against texting in a car. First of all most of the cell phones only work in certain spots, so typically you stop and text where you get service. Secondly, there’s a lot to see while driving why do you want to be staring at your phone. Thirdly we don’t legislate stupid unless we have to.

There is a law in Whitehall Montana that you can’t drive with ice picks in your tires. Why? Because Stupid wouldn’t stop doing it and use common sense so they made a law for him.

  1. You really should have laws that prevent people from using mobile devices in cars, because of the terrible accidents that occur when people do this. Likewise, it makes sense to demand the wearing of seatbelts in vehicles and helmets by motorbike riders – not only to protect these people but to make life easier for the emergency crews who have to clear up the mess when people get into trouble otherwise.
