How To Identify Your Organic-Search Competitors

Understand Your Competition

You need to identify your competition. This is not necessarily limited to the sites that write the exact same content or sell the same products and services, but should also include large informational sites as well as massive retailers that compete for the same phrases. Washington Post, New York Times, Wikipedia, Vogue magazine, and Walmart are your competitors if they’re taking up room on the same search results page. What to do about this? Ask yourself:

* What are they writing well in organic search?

* What content themes do they include that you don’t?

* How do they structure their site to target valuable keywords?

* How do they engage searchers?

Also, study their reviews and social media activity to identify the exact content they used on-site info that could improve your own offerings and user experience.
